Robert Inniss is a secondary school drama teacher at Presentation College, San Fernando and a theatre practitioner. ‘Coriolanus’ is his first attempt dabbling in the generous world of Shakespeare.

The play is set around 491 BC, when Rome was a young Republic. A Roman soldier named Coriolanus rises to political power due to his bravery in battle, but his arrogance and inability to adapt to this life of service leads to his eventual downfall.

Robert intends to use this creative piece to propel the imaginations of his students while merging a ‘classical’ sense of theatre with the local ‘cultural seasoning’ of Trinidadian English Creole. According to Inniss, the ultimate goal is to carry the play through the preliminary rounds of the Secondary School Drama Festival. Through that experience, he hopes to nurture, in the younger generation, a deep sense of connection to the cultural landscape of Trinidad and Tobago, both as students and practitioners themselves.

The PWT, in partnership with the Trinidad Theatre Workshop and The Trinidad and Tobago Performing Arts Network, is inviting actors, playwrights, directors, producers and the general public to partake in the reading and discussion of the play. The event will be held on Wednesday October 3, 2018, 7PM at the Trinidad Theatre Workshop, 6 Newbold Street, St Clair. Admission is FREE but Space Is Limited. RSVP HERE.

Come one. Come all. Bring a friend.
