Curtis Bachan has been employed in the theatre arts industry as a Lighting Designer and Technical Coordinator for over 25 years. As a professional, he has collaborated with directors, choreographers, and other members of production design teams at all major theatres in Trinidad and Tobago.
Curtis has worked on high-profile productions such as the Miss Universe International Finals and the World Beat Festival (both held in Trinidad in 1999), and the First Caribbean Theatre Festival in Trinidad, where he served as an executive member of the National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NDATT). Internationally, he was the Assistant Production Manager for the opera Madama Butterfly at the 2006 Princeton Summer Festival in New Jersey, USA. In 2009, he was the lighting designer for Dance Me Lover, the first command performance of the National Theatre Arts Company at the National Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain. In 2014, he coordinated the Arts PUSH program on behalf of Queen’s Hall in partnership with the Tobago House of Assembly’s Culture Division.
His recent work includes lighting design and technical coordination for the National Carnival Commission’s (NCC) Dimanche Gras Show Déjà Vu – Echoes of a Carnival Coming, held at the Queen’s Park Savannah in February 2022.
Curtis served as Technical Coordinator at Queen’s Hall for sixteen years before leaving the public service in 2018. Since then, he has been self-employed and recently completed his BA in Theatre Arts with a Minor in Film Studies from The University of the West Indies, graduating with second-class honours.
In addition to his creative and technical work, Curtis has been a Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Business Etiquette and Protocol Specialists Limited (TTBEPS) for over a decade and currently serves as Chairman of the Board. He is also a Founding Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Performing Arts Network, where his longstanding commitment to advancing the performing arts continues to impact the sector meaningfully.
