QED TT gets a big band sound

The month of June will open with a ‘bang’ of beautiful music at Queen’s Hall with ‘Down Memory Lane – the soundtrack to your life!’ The three-man vocal trio of QED TT, featuring Raymond Edwards, Nigel Floyd and Edward Cumberbatch, will be hosting their 2017 concert on Sunday 4th June 2017 and over the past few weeks of rehearsal, have been working with some exciting musical collaborators.

For this concert, Queen’s Hall will become a crossroads where artists and audiences who arrive from all walks of life will come together once more to create wonderful performance memories of the gentlemen of QED TT.

The singers are aiming for the grand, nostalgia sound of the ‘big band’ with the multiple-instrument orchestra affectionately called ‘The JunctionQ Jammers’, which will be accompanying the gentlemen of QED TT. The Jammers represent an all-star line-up of musicians from various genres of the local music industry, from Soca to Jazz, to Classical orchestras. All together, they will match the eclectic spirit of QED TT and bring the music of ‘Down Memory Lane’ to life.

Leading the group is musical director Richard “Char Su” Ahong a gentleman with over 30 years’ experience in the local music industry. A producer, and a songwriter, Ahong is a multi-award winning producer with over 30 jingle awards both internationally and nationally, with Multiple COTT Music and Soca awards.

In the past, he has collaborated with many top Caribbean artistes such as Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, H20 Phlo, Blazer, Lil’ Bitts, Shurwayne Winchester, Edwin Yearwood, Ziggy Rankin, just to name a few. He will now apply his hit-making prowess to the award-winning voices of QED TT.

The quintessential brass line of the JunctionQ Jammers will comprise stellar and well-known musicians Philo Neptune and Demetrius ‘CP’ Fraser on trumpet, along with the classy, sassy ladies of brass: Kensa James on trombone, Martina Chow on Alto Sax and Flute and Michelle Marfan-Urquhart on tenor saxophone.

Supporting the band on drums and percussion will be Richard Joseph, with Johanna Chuckaree-Lohmeyer on keyboard accompaniment and the versatile Dean Williams on guitar. Innovative and energetic tenor pan soloist Johann Chuckaree joins the JunctionQ Jammers bringing the festive vibe of the national instrument.

Altogether, QED TT and the JunctionQ Jammers will be filling the Queen’s Hall auditorium with memories through the musical soundtrack of all our lives.

Tickets for ‘Down Memory Lane’ are TT$200 and the event will feature a Pre-show in the foyer with the Success Stars Ensemble – the pan students of the Success Laventille School at 5:00 p.m. with ShowTime at 6:00 p.m.
