Ronald John’s latest play will be read at the Playwrights Workshop Trinbago’s Monthly Readers Theatre Series, on Wednesday 1st November at the Big Black Box, Woodbrook.
Ronald John is a prize winning playwright/director who has written and staged many plays in over 40 years of activity in the theatre community. His romantic drama; Dance Me, Lover, was the first play to be staged at the National Academy for the Performing Arts(NAPA) in November 2009.
‘Pieces of a Dream’ is the title of his new work. It is a play in two acts, and is described as another attempt by Ronald to compose a play in the Theatre of the Absurd genre.
In Pieces of a Dream, Professor Einstein, an alleged lecturer at the university, sits all day in Woodford Square, writing on heaps of paper, talking to himself and giving long speeches to no one in particular. While he does this, two homeless souls sit waiting on him, for what reason, none can say. As they wait, they swap stories, jokes and plan ways of getting out of their poverty. During all this, Mary, a prostitute, passes, notices the professor and falls in love with him.
As the Playwrights Workshop Trinbago is preparing for its New Play Festival which opens this week at the Big Black Box, #33 Murray Street Woodbrook, Port-Of-Spain, the reading of Ronald John’s ‘Pieces of a Dream’ will also be held at that venue. All are invited. Admission is FREE. Reading begins at 7PM.
