Hudlin’s Mozart concert recital goes online

The All Saints’ Anglican Church, Port of Spain came alive with the sound of voices, piano and steelpan on Friday 26th March, for the Trinidad and Tobago premiere of the mass, Missa Brevis in F Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Limited concert seating was filled with a sold-out audience attending to be a part of this intimate evening of music and scholarship under the baton of Michael Hudlin. The concert will soon be streamed to the wider public online during a time window of 6 p.m. on Friday 23rd to 12 noon on Monday 26th April at the website: events.jewelboxbyjr.com.

The concert entitled, “For Faith and Music: A Mass for the People”, featured a winning combination of Classical music with a pre-show of traditional Caribbean Folk songs, and a lineup of seasoned performers including: Aniya Carty-Hart, Samantha Stanislaus, Jendayi Toussaint, Janine Charles-Farray, Edward Cumberbatch, Carl-Anthony Hines, Mark Anthony Peter, Daniel De Cranie-Pierre, Jamel Williams and Tiana Chandler, with musical accompaniment by pianist Andrew Samlal and The Lydian Steel.

The evening was a special one for the conductor, as it represented Hudlin’s final recital concert required before completing his Master of Music in Conducting – Choral, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

In accordance with the All Saints’ Church public health protocols, several safety measures were put in place and enforced by the concert producer, Chandelier Productions. These included, but were not limited to, mandatory mask wearing, hand sanitization, temperature checks and contact tracing. Seating was physically distanced, and the show had no intermission. Glowing reviews continue to pour in for the young conductor, and his musical endeavours with Chandelier Productions are set to continue for Christmas 2021 with details to be announced soon.
