Milwaz Productions is marking a decade of artistic excellence with a landmark event titled The Tenth Act: A Decade of Drama – Theatre & Ties, a black-and-white gala celebration set for TODAY, Sunday, August 10th, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at the Government Plaza Auditorium. Tickets cost $200.
Although Milwaz is possibly best known for their Shakespeare festivals, the highlight of the evening will be a premiere performance of ANANSI, a compelling theatrical work by acclaimed playwright Alistair Campbell, will be directed by Milwaz founder and creative force, Mrs. Janieka Tudor-Baptiste. The play, a reimagining of the iconic Caribbean folklore trickster, explores deeper themes of resistance, survival, and cultural identity in the shadow of colonial legacy.
Bringing the story to life is a dynamic ensemble of fourteen young actors, led by 8-year-old rising star T’xaiyan Exoudos Unique Cain, whose portrayal promises to captivate and inspire. The production reflects Milwaz’s mission of nurturing young talent and using theatre as a transformative tool within educational and community spaces.
“Anansi […] a prescribed play in the CSEC English Curriculum/ Syllabus was a strongly requested play, by Teachers across Trinidad and Tobago, and will be staged this year in addition to our regularly featured play Twelfth Night ” says Tudor-Baptiste. “As it [Anansi] is a new play, we decided upon hosting it as our premiere play for the 10th Anniversary celebration.”

Guests are invited to don their most elegant black-and-white attire for an evening that blends Caribbean flair with timeless sophistication. Beyond the stage, attendees will enjoy a curated selection of signature local cuisine, premium drinks, and an immersive theatre experience.
The event will also feature a reflective multimedia presentation chronicling Milwaz’s journey over the past ten years—its impact on education, community theatre, and the Caribbean arts ecosystem. A moment of tribute will honor the memory of three individuals integral to Milwaz’s foundation—Mr. Matthew Johnson, Mr. Mark Ayoung, and Ms. Donna Marie Bertrand—whose legacies continue to inspire the company’s work.
“Mr. Matthew Johnson would have been the first man to invest in our team with regards to set design, construction and costuming” Mrs. Tudour Baptiste shared. “Donna Marie Bertrand was our first and only mentor for stage management and facilitated many workshops throughout the last ten years, equipping the team with tools for maximum efficiency and Mr. Mark Ayoung was our resident chef at Milwaz Productions- he would have travelled with our team on tours and planned and prepared all meals for our tours and events. All three of these remarkable individuals believed in the vision of Milwaz Productions and embraced our young leaders with training, care, compassion and grace. We always honour them as pioneers of this movement.”
As Milwaz Productions looks ahead to the next decade, The Tenth Act stands as a powerful testament to its enduring mission: to entertain, educate, and empower through the dramatic arts.
