Presentation College Mixed Choir, a youth choir based in Presentation College, San Fernando, has announced Elton John and Tim Rice’s ‘AIDA’ as their Musical Theatre Production this year. This will be the choir’s the 37th production in a long legacy of full length Broadway Musicals since it was founded in 1977. The choir is seeking singers, dancers, actors and acrobats between 11 -18 years old, for lead, supporting and ensemble roles. Interested persons, students of all Secondary Schools, are invited to attend their open auditions on the 24th and 31st March 2017.
Based on the opera of the same name by Giuseppe Verdi, ‘AIDA the Musical’ is as a timeless love story about Aida, an enslaved Nubian princess and her romantic entanglement with an Egyptian captain, who is betrothed to the Pharaoh’s daughter. As their forbidden love grows deeper, Aida is forced to find balance between her heart’s yearning, and her responsibility to lead her people.
In the original Broadway Production, celebrated Trinidad born songstress; Heather Headley, starred in the title role. The Musical went on to win multiple awards including both a Tony Award (Best Actress in a Musical) and Drama Desk Award (Outstanding Actress in a Musical) for Miss Headley.

‘AIDA’ features an award-winning pop/rock score from Elton John and Tim Rice; the seasoned pop duo who brought musical life to Disney’s The Lion King, rousing rock numbers and heart-wrenching ballads bring the ill-fated lovers into a new era.
Presentation College Mixed Choir’s production of ‘AIDA’ will bring together Cacique Lifetime Award Winner, and the choir’s 1977 co-founder, Mrs Cynthia Lee Mack , in the role of Producer; Musical Director – Peter Lockhart, who succeeded Mrs. Lee Mack as choir director in 2009, and under whose leadership the choir has won multiple awards at the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival; Movement Director – Triston Wallace, whose choreography credits include Fatima College’s GOBAG 5, Naparima College’s ‘The Inspector’, Native Caribbean Foundation’s ‘Big Bad Musical’ and Brian Mac Farlene’s Christmas Joy; and Artistic Director – Dexter Crawford, who has directed many of the choir’s productions over the years including ‘Children Of Eden’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘The Wiz’, and ‘Newsies’, and whose artistic vision most recently brought to life Native Caribbean Foundation’s Big Bad Musical.
Open auditions for Presentation College Mixed Choir’s production of ‘AIDA’ will be held in the music room at Presentation College, San Fernando on Fridays 24th and 31st March 2017, 3PM – 6PM on both days. Anyone between 11 -18 years old are invited to attend.
