The National Drama Association of T&T has elected a new executive body, following its Annual General Meeting on July 23. Over 120 members turned out to vote in the organization’s first AGM since 2012.
The new executive body is comprised of President Wendell Etienne, Vice President Triston Wallace, Secretary Safa Niamat-Ali, Assistant Secretary Ria Carrera-Toney, Treasurer Theresa Awai, Public Relations Officer Paula Lindo, Education Officer Anderson La Barrie and Resource Development Officer Rubadiri Victor, with Trustees Dr. Helmer Hilwig and Nigel Scott.

Etienne said he was pleased at the results, adding
“The theatre fraternity has installed a new executive and we will be held accountable for our representation of them. We will conduct ourselves with the dignity befitting a national association and ensure that our practitioners and the industry as a whole, reap the benefits of our tenure.”
The incoming President thanked NDATT’s Caretaker Committee, which spearheaded the revitalization of the organization and the holding of the AGM. Committee Chairman Dr. Lester Efebo Wilkinson thanked the membership for turning out and emphasized that they needed to support the new executive.
“Theatre needs a body to speak for it. Nobody will speak for the theatre unless you decide to be that voice.”
He advocated for a Council of Elders comprised of former NDATT Presidents, almost all of whom are still alive, as well as other distinguished elder practitioners in the arts and drama.
The new executive will be meeting shortly to determine the way forward for the organization. NDATT is calling on theatre practitioners, including dancers, singers, technicians, stage managers, etc., to join its ranks. Individual membership is $25, student membership is $10 (must show your student ID) and group membership is $100.
